BENIDORM – The municipality will enable in the next month two charging points for electric vehicles

The councilor for Mobility, Jose Ramon Gonzalez de Zarate, announced that Benidorm will have a maximum period of one month with two charging points for electric vehicles on public roads. Zarate made the announcement after participating in a working group on the Day of Clean Vehicle, which is part of the International Week of Mobility.

The first charging point will be put into operation in the phone booth located in Ruzafa Street, opposite the Hotel Vista Oro. The mayor explained that the company is now finalizing the whole issue of wiring, so this charger is available as soon possible.

Moreover, the concessionaire of the zone, tow truck and the UTE Sice-Auplasa, are working so that “all the parking meters have the possibility to be eventually be used electric charge points.” Input, is expected to enable this option at one of the parking meters of the city in October but it’s still to be determined.

Zarate explained that “there would be a possibility of enabling 20 parking meter points”, but for now it is not necessary because “there are not many electric cars in Benidorm.” However, as the number of vehicles of this type increase the number of charging points shall also be increased”.

Both next to the phone booths and parking meters that are enabled as charging points “the space will be reserved for vehicles wishing to use this service.”

The mayor pointed out that the installation of public charging points for electric vehicles is part of a plenary resolution passed by a majority in the proposal Compromís-Greens group. This agreement also includes the study to reduce road tax for this type of vehicles.
